New Delhi, 22 September (H.S.): Global markets are providing positive cues on Tuesday, with US equities ending the previous session on a strong note. However, Dow Jones futures were trading lower today. European markets also remained firmly supported by buying activity in the previous session. Asian markets, meanwhile, were largely trading higher, reflecting a broadly positive trend across the region.
US markets remained upbeat during the previous session as Treasury yields declined and international crude oil prices fell to their lowest level in 11 days. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.71 per cent to close at 52,048.83. The S&P 500 rose 114.20 points, or 1.49 per cent, to end the session at 7,764.70. The Nasdaq posted a sharper gain of 599.55 points, or 2.26 per cent, to close at 27,122.09. However, Dow Jones futures were currently trading 0.13 per cent lower at 51,981.96.
European markets also maintained a positive tone during the previous session. The FTSE index closed 0.74 per cent higher at 10,739.01. Similarly, the CAC index ended the session with a gain of 0.91 per cent at 8,138.94. The DAX index advanced 270.95 points, or 1.06 per cent, to close at 25,575.01.
Asian markets were also largely trading in positive territory on Tuesday. Of the nine Asian markets being tracked, seven benchmark indices were trading in the green, while two remained in negative territory. The Jakarta Composite Index came under significant pressure, falling 101.88 points, or 1.60 per cent, to 6,282.85. The Straits Times Index was marginally lower by 0.02 per cent at 5,697.66.
On the other hand, Gift Nifty was trading 0.06 per cent higher at 23,452.50. The Shanghai Composite Index had gained 0.22 per cent to reach 3,958.64. South Korea’s KOSPI also registered a sharp rise, gaining 99.47 points, or 1.42 per cent, to 7,107.19.
The Nikkei index was also showing strong momentum, rising 882.70 points, or 1.36 per cent, to 65,018.95. Similarly, the Taiwan Weighted Index advanced 408.16 points, or 0.86 per cent, to 48,127. The SET Composite Index was up 0.63 per cent at 1,608.03, while the Hang Seng Index gained 0.31 per cent to trade at 25,121.
