New Delhi, 21 September (H.S.): The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has announced that it will launch its ‘Campus Bachao Yatra’ on September 22 to highlight student issues raised in its manifesto, ‘Accountable DU: Accountable DUSU’, and seek greater accountability from the Delhi University administration and the Delhi Government.

Addressing the media at the Arts Faculty in North Campus on Monday, Vijay Shankar Meena, NSUI’s candidate for the post of Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) president, announced that he would lead the ‘Campus Bachao Yatra’ beginning Tuesday. Through the campaign, the organisation plans to take the issues outlined in its manifesto directly to students and raise its voice for their resolution.

Meena said the NSUI manifesto had highlighted several key concerns affecting students of Delhi University. He said the ‘Campus Bachao Yatra’ would now take these issues to students across the campus and press for concrete measures to address them.

Referring to the Delhi Government’s announcement of hostel accommodation for 10,000 students, Meena said the government should now present a concrete action plan for implementing the proposal. He sought clarity on where the hostels would be constructed, when construction would commence and by when the facilities would be made available to students.

Meena said students needed more than announcements and were seeking a clear implementation roadmap and defined timelines. He added that if the government failed to present a concrete action plan and take effective steps to address students’ accommodation concerns, the NSUI would, along with students, stage a peaceful protest outside the Chief Minister’s residence.
