Mumbai, 21 September (H.S.): Filmmaker and producer Karan Johar is set to bring the life of Rameshwar Nath Kao, the founding chief of India’s external intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), to the big screen in an upcoming biographical film. The film will be based on author Nitin Gokhale’s book ‘R.N. Kao: Gentleman Spymaster’ and will be jointly produced by Dharma Productions and Leo Media Collective. The film is scheduled for worldwide theatrical release on August 11, 2028.

The film will chronicle R.N. Kao’s journey from 1955 to 1971, tracing key developments in the evolution of India’s intelligence apparatus and the establishment of RAW. It will also highlight Kao’s role in significant intelligence operations linked to the 1971 India-Pakistan war and the creation of Bangladesh.

According to the producers, the film seeks to take audiences behind the formative years of RAW and tell the story of the individuals who worked to build the agency during its early years.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the project, Karan Johar said he was excited to bring this significant chapter of India’s intelligence history to the big screen. The film is slated to release in 2028, marking 60 years since the establishment of RAW, and is being positioned as a special cinematic tribute to the agency’s history.
