Nagaon (Assam), 21 September (HS): A convoy carrying senior Congress leaders, including Assam Congress in-charge Bhupesh Baghel, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi, Leader of the Opposition Wazed Ali Choudhury, AICC secretary Manoj Chauhan, Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll candidate Shivamoni Bora and MP Rakibul Hussain, was allegedly attacked at Barma in Samaguri on Monday, according to a Congress leader.

The convoy was reportedly on its way to attend a party workers’ meeting at Lorimukh in Samaguri when a group of people allegedly pelted the vehicles with stones, bricks and other objects.

According to the information shared by the Congress, the vehicles carrying Wazed Ali Choudhury, MLA Tanzil Hussain and Shivamoni Bora were damaged, while AICC secretary Manoj Chauhan was reportedly injured in the incident.

The Congress said the full extent of the damage was yet to be ascertained. It condemned the alleged attack and urged the Election Commission and the administration to take strict action against those responsible.

The incident comes ahead of the October 6 Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll.----------
