Dibrugarh (Assam), 21 September (HS): Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Monday visited the residence of 96-year-old veteran educator and freedom fighter Phanidhar Gogoi at Konwarigaon in Dibrugarh and honoured him under the Governor Assam Varishtha Nagrik Samman initiative.

During the visit, Acharya felicitated Gogoi with a traditional Assamese gamosa, a cheque of ₹51,000, seleng sador, shawl, dhoti, umbrella and a basket of fruits, recognising his lifelong contribution to the nation.

The Governor described Gogoi’s life as an inspiring example of dedication, diligence and discipline, highlighting his service as both a teacher and freedom fighter.

“Honouring our senior citizens is a bow of respect to the values and struggles of a generation that built our nation. I pray for his healthy and long life,” Acharya said.

The initiative seeks to recognise the contributions and service of senior citizens who have made significant contributions to society and the nation.------------
