Bhubaneswar, 21 September (H.S.): An all-party meeting was held at the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Monday ahead of the upcoming session, with Speaker Surama Padhy seeking the cooperation of all political parties for the smooth and orderly conduct of the House.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also attended the meeting, which discussed measures to ensure that the forthcoming session is conducted in a smooth, disciplined and effective manner. The session is scheduled to begin on September 22 and continue until October 3.

The Speaker urged representatives of all political parties to cooperate in ensuring the uninterrupted functioning of the House and maintaining the dignity of parliamentary proceedings.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said the Legislative Assembly is a key institution reflecting the hopes, aspirations and democratic faith of the people. He stressed the importance of respecting parliamentary traditions and ensuring constructive discussions and meaningful debates on issues concerning public interest.

Majhi also said that the state government remains committed to working with the cooperation and consensus of all stakeholders for the overall welfare of the people and the creation of a prosperous and “Developed Odisha”.

Deputy Speaker Bhawani Shankar Bhoi, Deputy Chief Minister K.V. Singh Deo, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Government Chief Whip Saroj Pradhan, Deputy Leader of Opposition’s Prasanna Acharya, Opposition Chief Whip Pramila Mallik, Deputy Chief Whip Pratap Keshari Deb and Congress MLA Ashok Das attended the meeting.

Several issues are expected to come up for discussion during the session. Opposition parties are preparing to raise matters including the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, alleged errors in textbooks and law-and-order issues.
