Haridwar, 20 September (H.S.): The two-day convocation ceremony of IIT Roorkee concluded on Sunday, with degrees being awarded to 1,424 students on the second day.

The degrees included 518 PhD scholars, three research scholars and 903 MTech students. On the first day, 1,277 students were awarded their degrees, taking the total number of students graduating over the two days to 2,701.

The second day of the convocation began with a traditional academic procession. Harshavardhan Chitale, Chairman of Hero MotoCorp, attended the ceremony as the chief guest, while Vikram Garg, founder of Oilmax Energy, was present as the guest of honour.

Addressing the graduating students, Chitale said the convocation was a celebration of their years of hard work, perseverance and achievements. He said students graduating from a globally renowned institution such as IIT Roorkee were expected to make meaningful contributions to the development of society and the nation.

He noted that technology was evolving rapidly and urged the students to use their knowledge and skills to address emerging challenges and contribute to human welfare.

Vikram Garg said receiving a degree was not the end of a student’s academic journey, but the beginning of a new phase accompanied by greater responsibilities. He encouraged the graduates to pursue innovation, research and entrepreneurship and play an active role in the country’s progress.

Institute Director Professor K. K. Pant presented an overview of IIT Roorkee’s achievements and developments. Deputy Director Praveen Garg, along with deans, professors, officials, students and their family members, attended the ceremony in large numbers.

The graduating students displayed considerable enthusiasm and excitement as they received their degrees, marking the culmination of years of academic effort and the beginning of a new professional journey.
