New Delhi, 20 September (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday launched a protest against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over the alleged suicide of Deepak, a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) sanitation worker, who was allegedly subjected to financial harassment and driven to take the extreme step.

Delhi BJP workers staged a demonstration outside the AAP headquarters, demanding the immediate arrest of councillor Vijay Kumar, who has been accused in connection with the case, as well as his expulsion from the party. The allegations against Kumar are being investigated by the police, and a case has been registered against him under the relevant provision concerning abetment of suicide. Kumar has denied the allegations.

During the protest, a heated confrontation broke out between the police and demonstrators. Police detained several BJP leaders, including North-West Delhi MP Yogendra Chandoliya, MLA Ravinder Negi, MLA Ravikant Ujjainwal and municipal councillor Priyanka Gautam, and took them to Tilak Marg police station.

The detained leaders were subsequently released.

The BJP has alleged that Deepak faced financial exploitation and harassment in connection with a loan and his salary. According to a complaint filed by Deepak’s wife, he had allegedly obtained a loan of around Rs 15 lakh for purchasing a house, but the amount was allegedly retained by the councillor. She also alleged that Deepak had not received his salary for several months.

The BJP has demanded strict action against Vijay Kumar and called for his expulsion from the AAP. The party has also demanded a fair investigation into the circumstances surrounding Deepak’s death.
