Guwahati, 20 September (HS): Congress MP and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi faced protests during an election campaign in minority-dominated areas of Assam, with some local residents allegedly raising “Go Back” slogans against him.

The protest was reported during a procession that began from Bordowa, where Gogoi was reportedly greeted with “Go Back” slogans by sections of the local minority community. In Dhing’s Dhupguri area, some minority voters also reportedly displayed black cloth and raised slogans alleging that Gogoi had no role to play in the area.

Separately, Congress MLA Asif Mohammad Nazar and Congress candidate for the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election Shivamoni Bora reportedly faced protests during an election campaign at Balidonga in the Lahorighat Assembly constituency.

According to reports, sections of the minority community raised “Go Back” slogans in the presence of Bora and Nazar. Protesters also alleged that the Congress had sought minority votes for decades by allegedly creating fear and intimidation.

The developments come ahead of the October 6 Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election, with campaigning intensifying across the constituency.----------
