Thiruvananthapuram, 20 September (H.S.): Kerala is likely to experience isolated rain on Sunday, with the India Meteorological Department issuing a yellow alert for Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts.

The three districts may receive isolated heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in some places. Heavy rainfall refers to precipitation ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services has issued a Kallakkadal warning for several parts of the Kerala coast. High waves ranging from 0.8 metres to 1.5 metres could trigger coastal flooding and sea erosion until 8.30 pm on Monday.

The warning covers the coastal stretches from Alappad to Edava in Kollam, Chellanam to Azhikkal Jetty in Alappuzha, Munambam fishing harbour to Maruvakkad in Ernakulam and Attupuram to Kodungallur in Thrissur.

It also applies to the coastal areas between Kadalundi Nagaram and Palappetty in Malappuram, Chombala and Ramanattukara in Kozhikode, Valapattanam and New Mahe in Kannur, and Kunjathur and Kottakkunnu in Kasaragod.

Fishermen and residents living along vulnerable coastal areas have been advised to remain vigilant. Authorities have urged people to stay away from beaches and avoid unnecessary travel through areas prone to sea erosion.

Strong winds and rough weather are also expected over the southern Myanmar coast, the Andaman Sea and parts of the Bay of Bengal. Wind speeds may reach 40 to 50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph in some areas.

The Andaman Sea and adjoining parts of the east-central and southeast Bay of Bengal could experience winds of 45 to 55 kmph, occasionally touching 65 kmph. Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into these identified sea areas on Sunday.
