Anti-Narcotic Cell seizes nearly 958 grams of tablets; police to probe source of supply and wider distribution network

Chandigarh, 20 September (H.S.): Haryana Police’s Anti-Narcotic Cell in Hisar has arrested two persons in separate cases and recovered a total of 9,570 banned Alprazolam tablets weighing 957 grams and 300 milligrams, as part of the state-wide campaign against drug trafficking and illegal sale of narcotic substances.

In the first case, the Anti-Narcotic Cell team acted near Ramlila Ground in Mahabir Colony after receiving information about alleged trafficking of intoxicating tablets. Police said a woman was stopped with the assistance of women police personnel and a search led to the recovery of 9,420 Alprazolam tablets weighing 942 grams from a cardboard carton she was carrying.

The accused has been identified as Shalu, wife of Satish, a resident of Mahabir Colony, Hisar. A case has been registered against her under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at HTM Police Station, Hisar.

In a separate operation, the Anti-Narcotic Cell arrested Joginder, son of Bharat Singh and a resident of Chandan Nagar, Hisar, near GH Mor in the Cloth Market area. Police claimed that 150 Alprazolam tablets weighing 15 grams and 300 milligrams were recovered from his possession. A separate case has been registered under the NDPS Act at City Police Station, Hisar.

Police said both accused would be produced before a court and their remand would be sought for further investigation. Investigators will question them about the source of the tablets, procurement, intended sale and other persons who may be linked to the alleged supply chain.

According to police, the investigation will focus not only on the recovery but also on tracing the wider network involved in sourcing and distributing the tablets.

Haryana Director General of Police Ajay Singhal said strict action would continue against persons involved in the illegal drug trade. He said police teams were concentrating on identifying supply sources and tracking the complete network behind such activities.

The DGP also appealed to the public to share information regarding illegal sale, trafficking or supply of narcotic substances, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential. He said public cooperation was important for strengthening the campaign against drug abuse and illegal trafficking.
