LEICESTER, 02 September (H.S.): England completed their highest successful run chase in women’s ODI cricket against Ireland, riding on a magnificent century from opener Maya Bouchier. Chasing a target of 282, England reached 283 for four in just 38.1 overs on Tuesday local time to register a six-wicket victory.

Ireland, batting first, posted 281 for five in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, Bouchier produced an aggressive and commanding innings, smashing 104 off 95 balls, including 11 boundaries.

Bouchier forged a crucial 143-run partnership with Sophia Dunkley for the second wicket, with the pair adding the runs off 118 deliveries. Dunkley contributed 73 off 61 balls as the duo gave England a strong platform from the outset.

Dunkley brought up her half-century from 40 balls, while Bouchier reached her fifty in 53 deliveries. Their aggressive approach helped England race to 72 without loss after 10 overs.

Ireland’s Cara Murray finally broke the partnership in the 20th over by dismissing Dunkley. She struck again in the following over to remove Jodi Grewcock. However, Bouchier and Alice Capsey then added 50 runs to put England firmly on course for victory.

Bouchier completed her century off 91 balls in the 31st over, but Murray dismissed her in the very next over. Freya Kemp then produced a brisk 36 off 22 balls to extinguish Ireland’s hopes completely. Capsey remained unbeaten on 41 and sealed England’s record chase with a boundary.

Ireland Make Strong Start

Earlier, Ireland built a competitive total on the back of impressive performances from Gaby Lewis and Amy Hunter. The pair put together a 136-run partnership for the second wicket from 152 deliveries. Lewis scored 69, while Hunter contributed 62.

After the 30th over, Ireland lost three wickets within a span of 7.1 overs, raising doubts over whether they would even reach the 250-run mark. However, Leah Paul and Rebecca Stokell steadied the innings with an 84-run partnership from 71 balls. Stokell remained unbeaten on 54.

Ireland added 77 runs in the final 10 overs to set England a challenging target of 282, but Bouchier’s blistering innings ultimately made the total look modest.
