Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday directly interacted with citizens from various parts of the national capital during a public grievance hearing organised at the Chief Minister’s Janseva Sadan. She heard the problems and complaints of citizens one by one and directed the concerned officials to take necessary action according to the seriousness of each case and ensure their resolution within a stipulated timeframe.

The Chief Minister said the doors of the government should always remain open to the people. Citizens should be able to approach the government directly with their grievances, their concerns should be heard with sensitivity, and they should not be forced to make unnecessary rounds of government offices in search of a solution. She said this reflects the working culture of the present Delhi government.

During the public hearing, citizens raised a range of issues before the Chief Minister, including education, pending award money, waterlogging, sewerage, electrical safety, sanitation, illegal construction and illegal connections. The Chief Minister listened to all the matters seriously and directed the concerned officials to conduct inquiries, take necessary action and ensure time-bound resolution. She particularly emphasised the need for sensitive action in matters related to the safety and education of students and called for long-pending grievances to be addressed on a priority basis.

Some citizens also informed the Chief Minister that they had previously lodged complaints with the concerned departments, but their issues remained unresolved despite a considerable period of time having elapsed. The Chief Minister gave clear instructions to officials to review long-pending complaints on a priority basis and to expedite action wherever intervention at the administrative level was required. She said the objective of a public grievance hearing is not merely to listen to citizens’ complaints, but to ensure that every grievance is taken through to its resolution.
