Kolkata l, 02 September (H.S.): The controversy over wall writings at Jadavpur University continued as slogans and graffiti on the campus walls were once again covered with lime late Tuesday night, just hours after Vice-Chancellor Chiranjib Bhattacharyya appealed to all stakeholders to refrain from unauthorised wall writing and graffiti.

The university administration had earlier covered the wall writings with white paint on Sunday. However, students subsequently wrote fresh slogans and graffiti on the walls on Monday.

On Tuesday morning, Vice-Chancellor Chiranjib Bhattacharyya appealed to all sections to maintain the cleanliness, aesthetics and dignity of the university campus. He said he was not in favour of wall writing, while acknowledging the importance of freedom of expression. He suggested that students use designated spaces on the campus for expressing their views.

Meanwhile, Revolutionary Students' Front (RSF) Jadavpur unit secretary Indranuz Roy alleged that around 12.30 a.m. on Tuesday night, several people entered the campus through Gate No. 4, identifying themselves as officials of the Kolkata Police and Kolkata Municipal Corporation.

According to Roy, the visitors said municipal workers had come to remove the wall writings and that police personnel were accompanying them for security.

However, no immediate official clarification was available from the university administration regarding the late-night action.
