Bonn(GERMANY), 02 September (H.S.): The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has imposed a three-year ban on Iranian para-athlete Seyed Aliasghar Javanmardi for a doping violation and has revoked the gold medal he won in the men’s Shot Put F35 event at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi.

Two urine samples provided by Javanmardi tested positive for oxandrolone, a prohibited substance. The first sample was collected out of competition by Iran’s National Anti-Doping Organisation (Iran NADO) on September 22, 2025, while the second was collected by the IPC during the World Championships in New Delhi on September 24. The findings from both samples were treated as a single Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV).

Oxandrolone is classified as an anabolic androgenic steroid under the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) 2025 Prohibited List.

The IPC provisionally suspended Javanmardi on October 28, 2025, pending a final determination in the case. The athlete subsequently admitted to the anti-doping rule violation and accepted the sanction proposed by the IPC.

His three-year period of ineligibility is deemed to have commenced on October 28, 2025, and will remain in force until October 27, 2028. During this period, he will be barred from competing or participating in other sporting activities, although he will be permitted to take part in authorised anti-doping education or rehabilitation programmes.

The IPC has disqualified all of Javanmardi’s results from September 22, 2025, the date on which the first sample was collected, until the commencement of his provisional suspension. Consequently, his performance at the New Delhi World Para Athletics Championships has also been annulled, and his gold medal in the F35 shot put has been withdrawn.

Javanmardi won a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The IPC reiterated that under the World Anti-Doping Code, athletes are strictly responsible for any prohibited substances found in their samples.

The committee said it remains committed to ensuring a doping-free environment in para sport and upholding fair competition for athletes with disabilities.
