
New Delhi, 02 September (H.S.): Most stock markets across the world are witnessing a risk-off environment amid a rise in crude oil prices in international markets, higher US Treasury yields and escalating tensions in West Asia. Investors across the globe are seen adopting a cautious approach to trading, resulting in signs of weakness emerging from global markets today.
Amid the prevailing global pressure, US markets closed lower in the previous session. Dow Jones futures are also trading with marginal weakness today. European markets, too, remained under sustained selling pressure during the previous session. Similarly, Asian markets are witnessing broad-based selling today.
Investors in the US market remained reluctant to take risks during the previous session amid escalating tensions in West Asia and their negative impact on the US economy. The cautious approach among investors pushed Wall Street's major indices into negative territory. The S&P 500 Index fell 0.71 per cent to close at 7,631.47 points. Similarly, the Nasdaq declined 271.11 points, or 1.03 per cent, to end the previous session at 26,099.77 points. Meanwhile, Dow Jones futures were trading with a marginal decline of 0.01 per cent at 52,762.66 points.
European markets also remained under sustained pressure during the previous session. The FTSE Index declined 0.32 per cent to close at 10,789.28 points. Similarly, the CAC Index slipped 0.39 per cent to end the previous session at 8,301.85 points. The DAX Index also dropped 288 points, or 1.11 per cent, to close at 25,970.11 points.
Asian markets are also witnessing persistent selling pressure today. All nine major Asian market indices are trading under pressure. Gift Nifty was trading 117 points, or 0.49 per cent, lower at 23,934 points. Similarly, the Jakarta Composite Index slipped 0.15 per cent to 6,589.98 points.
The KOSPI Index witnessed a sharp decline today. The index was trading 256.23 points, or 3.75 per cent, lower at 6,579.57 points. Similarly, the Nikkei Index also came under heavy pressure, falling 1,962.34 points, or 2.96 per cent, to 64,253 points. The Taiwan Weighted Index declined 716.29 points, or 1.53 per cent, to 46,232.43 points.
Meanwhile, the Hang Seng Index fell 276.73 points, or 1.10 per cent, to 25,053 points. In addition, the Shanghai Composite Index was trading 0.82 per cent lower at 3,947.26 points, the SET Composite Index was down 0.78 per cent at 1,576.23 points, while the Straits Times Index was marginally lower by 0.02 per cent at 5,709.051 points.
