New Delhi, 02 September (H.S.): Former All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) spokesperson Syed Asim Waqar joined the Congress party on Wednesday. Waqar formally joined the party at a programme held at the Congress headquarters. Uttar Pradesh Congress in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam, state president Ajay Rai and Congress Minority Department chairman Imran Pratapgarhi were present on the occasion.

Speaking at a press conference, Waqar said that if one genuinely loves the country and wants to remove the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from power, it is necessary to join hands with the Congress, as the party is waging a strong battle against the BJP. He said that while he was with the AIMIM, he came to feel that although the party claimed to be fighting the BJP and its ideology, on the ground it was actually fighting those who were opposed to the BJP. Therefore, he decided to join the Congress.

Waqar said that people who love the country want to remove the BJP government from power so that a secular and public welfare-oriented government can be established in the country. He said the Congress is the only party that is fighting the BJP with determination and strength.

Rajendra Pal Gautam said that under the leadership of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, movements are being carried out across the country on issues concerning education, employment, students, women and marginalised sections of society. He said Rahul Gandhi is strongly raising the voice of every section of society and is continuously cautioning the government on every front. He added that, influenced by Rahul Gandhi’s ideology, senior leaders from various political parties are joining the Congress and strengthening the hands of party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.

State Congress president Ajay Rai welcomed Waqar into the party and said that he had always worked to convey a positive message to society through his oratory skills. Rai said Waqar’s thoughts and outlook are aligned with the vision Rahul Gandhi has for the country. He added that the Congress’s “shop of love” is continuously expanding and claimed that in 2027, the Congress flag would fly in every village and street of Uttar Pradesh.

Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi said that the party had become stronger with Syed Asim Waqar joining the Congress family. He said many more people would join the Congress in the coming days. He added that the Congress would fight the BJP’s ideology with full force and emerge victorious.
