Guwahati, 02 September (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday inaugurated a two-day conference of the state’s senior Superintendents of Police at the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon.

In a social media post, the Chief Minister said the conference will focus on strengthening law and order across the state. Key issues to be discussed during the two-day meeting include crime control, protection of women and children, prevention of cybercrime, intensified action against drugs, use of modern technology and making the police system more people-oriented.

Sarma said ensuring the safety and security of every citizen of Assam remains one of the government’s key priorities. He added that continuous efforts are being made to make the police force more capable, modern and accountable and these efforts will be further strengthened in the coming days.

The Chief Minister also stressed the need for a stronger fight against drug trafficking, noting Assam’s geographical proximity to Myanmar and Bangladesh, which makes the state particularly vulnerable to drug smuggling.

He said combating drugs more firmly and intensively is essential to protect the younger generation and ensure a healthy future for Assam.-----------
