Guwahati, 19 September (HS): Assam observed the first death anniversary of iconic singer and musician Zubeen Garg with a series of programmes across the state, as fans, students and admirers paid tribute to the beloved artiste and remembered his immense contribution to Assamese music and culture.

At Assam Jatiya Bidyalay in Noonmati, a special ‘Zubeen Divas’ was organised where around 2,600 students jointly performed the song ‘Diya Ghurai Diya’. Zubeen Garg’s wife Garima Saikia Garg was present at the programme.

Meanwhile, Zubeen Khetra turned emotional as admirers gathered in large numbers to pay homage to the artiste. The venue resonated with Zubeen’s songs as fans remembered his distinctive voice and musical legacy.

“After Zubeen’s death, the meaning of each of his songs has touched our hearts,” Minister Nilima Devi said while attending a Prabhat Pheri organised by the Mangaldoi Electronic Media Forum and Press Club as part of the Zubeen Divas observance.

At Zubeen Garg’s residence in Kahilipara, his statue was decorated with flowers as admirers paid tribute to the singer, whose songs and melodies continue to remain deeply cherished by generations of listeners.

On his first death anniversary, people across Assam remembered Zubeen Garg as the ‘voice of the Brahmaputra’, with tributes highlighting his unique voice, musical style and the enduring emotional connect of his songs with the people of Assam.-------------
