West Burdwan, 19 September (H.S.): A young motorcycle rider, who was unfamiliar with the route and was following Google Maps while riding, fell into a deep depression on a collapsed stretch of road in Pandaveswar, West Burdwan, after travelling several kilometres.

The rider had left home in the evening. Shortly after the accident, he managed to call his relatives but could not tell them where he was. His speech was reportedly slurred, prompting his family to contact the police.

Police and local residents conducted a search throughout the night. The rider was finally located and rescued in an injured condition from the Pandaveswar area on Saturday morning.

The accident reportedly took place in the old Bhatmura area of Haripur in Pandaveswar. The location falls within land acquired by Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL). A portion of the road in the colliery area had reportedly collapsed following subsidence a few days earlier.

According to local residents, the rider was following the route shown on Google Maps and ended up on the damaged and subsided road. His motorcycle then plunged into the collapsed section.

At the time of the rescue, the rider was seriously injured and unable to speak properly. He could not provide clear information about how the accident had occurred or where he had been travelling.

A police officer said the injured man was in a state of trauma and gave different place names when questioned. Police subsequently tracked his mobile phone tower location, which helped them identify his whereabouts on Saturday morning.

With assistance from the colliery authorities, police rescued the injured rider from the site and arranged for further medical treatment.
