Guwahati, 19 September (HS): The Assam Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday organised blood donation camps across the state to mark the first death anniversary of noted Assamese artiste Zubeen Garg, turning the occasion into a humanitarian initiative.

Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma donated blood at a camp organised at the BJP Assam Pradesh headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, in Basistha, Guwahati. He urged people to remember Zubeen not only through his songs but also through acts of service to humanity.

BJP Assam Pradesh spokesperson Manas Sarania said a total of 1,869 units of blood were collected at camps held at various locations across Assam. As many as 116 units were collected at the camp at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan.

Assam ministers Ashok Singhal and Bimal Borah also donated blood at the programme. BJP leaders, party workers and supporters participated in the statewide initiative and paid tribute to the late artiste through blood donation.

Sarma thanked BJP workers and state party president Dilip Saikia for organising the programme. Recalling his association with Zubeen Garg, the Chief Minister said the artiste had a distinctive vision for Assam and made significant contributions to the state’s cultural and social life.

Sarma said Zubeen’s deep affection for the people of Assam would keep his memory alive in the hearts of generations. The statewide blood donation drive sought to translate that remembrance into a service aimed at helping save human lives.---------------
