‘Punjab Police Is Scared of Gangsters and Goons’: Jakhar

Chandigarh, 19 September (H.S.): “Criminals in Punjab no longer fear the police; instead, the police themselves appear to be living in fear of gangsters and goons.” This was stated by former Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar in a post on the social media platform X.

Jakhar was reacting to an advisory issued by the Punjab Police to its personnel following a series of attacks on police officials in the state.

In his post, Jakhar said, “Following the killing of several police officials, one after another, by criminals, the Punjab government is understood to have issued an advisory that reflects the ground reality of law and order in the state.”

He said the advisory asks police personnel to avoid travelling alone, refrain from travelling in uniform while commuting, avoid using two-wheelers and, preferably, use public transport while travelling.

Expressing surprise over the advisory, Jakhar questioned whether this was the same Punjab Police that had once fought and eliminated terrorism in the state. He said the advisory raised serious questions about the prevailing law-and-order situation in Punjab.
