South 24 Parganas, 19 September (H.S.): A 32-year-old man was found dead inside an under-construction flat in the Ramkrishnapalli area under the jurisdiction of Narendrapur Police Station in South 24 Parganas on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Ranju Mondal (32), a resident of Chandpur under Kalikapur-II Gram Panchayat in the Sonarpur police station area. A mason by profession, Ranju had reportedly been working at the under-construction flat for around three years, according to local residents.

According to the family, Ranju is survived by his mother, wife, a son and a daughter.

The family said a Vishwakarma Puja had been organised at the under-construction building. They alleged that after the puja, a drinking session was held at the site. When Ranju did not return home at night, his family members began searching for him.

On Saturday afternoon, the family reportedly found Ranju lying in a pool of blood inside the under-construction flat. They attempted to take him to a hospital, but he could not be saved, the family claimed.

Ranju's family members alleged that there were injury marks on his chest and face and claimed that he had been murdered. They also claimed that some of Ranju's associates who were allegedly present with him could not be traced.

On information, personnel from Narendrapur Police Station reached the spot. Police initiated the process of sending the body for post-mortem examination. According to police sources, the exact cause of death will become clear after the post-mortem report is received.

An investigation has been launched by Narendrapur Police Station to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

Ranju's brother Sanju Mondal and sister Manju Mondal alleged, “Ranju was murdered. We suspect that he may have been killed following an argument during the drinking session. The truth can come out if his associates are traced and questioned.”

Police are investigating the cause of death and the possible involvement of others in the incident.
