Silchar Civic Poll: Dry Days Declared on October 2, 3 and 6

Guwahati, 19 September (HS): In view of the Silchar Municipal Corporation Election, 2026, the Assam Governor has ordered dry days in the Silchar Municipal Corporation area on October 2, October 3 and October 6.

The order, issued vide ECF No. 271931/801 dated September 11 under Section 135(C) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and Rule 326(A) of the Assam Excise Rules, 2016, prohibits the possession, sale, supply, distribution and consumption of liquor and other intoxicating substances during the notified period.

October 3, the polling day, and October 2, the day preceding the poll, will be observed as dry days. October 6, the counting day, will also remain a dry day until completion of the counting process. In case of any re-poll, the day of re-poll will also be treated as a dry day.

All wholesale warehouses, IMFL retail ‘OFF’ and ‘ON’ shops, including Club ‘ON’, Hotel ‘ON’ and Country Spirit shops, will remain closed during the notified period.

The order also restricts the storage of liquor by individuals and directs strict enforcement of excise provisions concerning storage of liquor in unlicensed premises.

Violations will invite action under the relevant provisions of the Assam Excise Act and Rules and Section 135(C) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The measure has been imposed to ensure a free, fair and peaceful election.------------
