New Delhi, 19 September (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday shared a Sanskrit subhashitam on X, conveying the message that the life of a noble person is meant for the service of others and the welfare of society. The Prime Minister shared the verse while emphasising the importance of self-reliance and service to others.

Prime Minister Modi shared the following Sanskrit verse on the social media platform X:

“स्वाधीनैव समृद्धिर्जनोपजीव्यत्वमुच्छ्रयश्छाया।

सत्पुंसो मरुभूरिव जीवनमात्रं समाशास्यम्॥”

The verse conveys that true prosperity lies in self-reliance, while true elevation lies in becoming a source of sustenance and support for others. Like shade and life-giving sustenance in a desert, the life of a noble person is something to be cherished for its capacity to serve others and contribute to the welfare of society.

The subhashitam is a traditional Sanskrit verse associated with the ethical and literary tradition of Aryasaptashati and is also included in the well-known Sanskrit anthology Subhashita Ratna Bhandagara.
