Alipurduar, 19 September (H.S.): A man has been arrested for allegedly setting fire to his girlfriend’s house after becoming upset over a relationship dispute. The incident took place late Friday night in Sukantapalli, Lebubagan, under Ward No. 7 of Alipurduar Municipality.

According to reports, a fire suddenly broke out at the woman’s house late at night. Seeing the flames and smoke, local residents rushed to the spot and immediately alerted the fire department. A fire engine reached the location and brought the blaze under control.

During the incident, local residents allegedly caught the accused, identified as Anil Sarkar, while he was allegedly attempting to set the house on fire. He was subsequently handed over to the police.

Police arrested Anil Sarkar on Saturday in connection with the incident.

Preliminary allegations suggest that the accused allegedly set fire to the house in anger following a relationship dispute. The incident created tension in the locality. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire and the alleged role of the accused.
