Guwahati, 19 September (HS): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has strengthened maintenance capacity at Dibrugarh Workshop under Tinsukia Division, with improved Periodical Overhauling (POH) outturn of coaches and wagons against prescribed targets, alongside measures to enhance workplace safety and sustainable operations.

The workshop is undertaking infrastructure augmentation for refurbishment of Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches and expansion of POH capacity. Maintenance activities include detailed examination of coach body components, undergear and other critical parts to ensure structural integrity, safety and operational fitness. Intermediate Overhauling (IOH) of coaches and goods wagons is also being carried out.

As part of workplace safety measures, two Pro Air Welding Helmets equipped with Powered Air-Purifying Respirator (PAPR) systems have been provided to staff engaged in prolonged hot-work activities. The initiative is aimed at improving respiratory protection, comfort and working conditions.

The workshop has also adopted a green energy initiative by installing solar modules recovered from a condemned Camp Coach on the rooftop of its new Canteen Building. The solar power generated is being used to charge battery-operated platform trucks, promoting renewable energy use and reducing the workshop’s carbon footprint.

NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava recently inspected the Dibrugarh Workshop and reviewed ongoing infrastructure augmentation, POH and IOH activities. He interacted with officials and staff and stressed adherence to high standards of safety, quality and efficiency, along with timely maintenance and availability of fit rolling stock.

The General Manager was accompanied by senior NFR headquarters officials, the Divisional Railway Manager of Tinsukia Division and other divisional officers. He also inspected various railway stations under Tinsukia Division and reviewed passenger amenities, station infrastructure and cleanliness, emphasising continuous improvement in passenger facilities and efficient maintenance of railway assets.-------------
