New Delhi, 19 September (H.S.): In the 2026 Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) retained the posts of president, secretary and joint secretary, as it did last year, while independent candidate Dipanshu Shokeen won the vice-president’s post.

According to the results declared on Saturday, ABVP’s Yash Dabas won the presidential election with 24,576 votes, defeating NSUI’s Vijay Shankar Meena, who secured 22,523 votes, by a margin of 2,053 votes. ABVP’s Riya Chhawri and Lakshyaraj Singh won the posts of secretary and joint secretary, respectively.

For the vice-president’s post, independent candidate Dipanshu Shokeen secured 30,615 votes to defeat ABVP’s Ishu Maurya, who received 16,910 votes. As a result, NSUI, which had won the vice-president’s post in 2025, failed to secure any of the four key positions this year.

For the secretary’s post, Riya Chhawri received 21,650 votes, while NSUI’s Namrata Chaudhary secured 14,869 votes. In the joint secretary’s contest, ABVP’s Lakshyaraj Singh polled 16,615 votes, while SCS candidate Vishesh Yadav received 15,778 votes. The winning margin between the two candidates was just 837 votes.

Thus, ABVP secured three of the four key DUSU posts, while an independent candidate won one. NSUI failed to win any of the four major positions.

Voter turnout in this year’s DUSU elections stood at 40.46 per cent, the highest recorded in the past three years.

After being elected president, Dabas thanked the students and said he would continue working for them throughout the year. He said his first priority would be to conduct safety audits of every postgraduate (PG) accommodation and hostel to help prevent incidents such as the one in Satya Niketan in the future.

Newly elected Joint Secretary Lakshyaraj Singh said ABVP had given an opportunity to a candidate from Rajasthan after 12 years and that he won with the support of students and fellow candidates from the state.

Newly elected Secretary Riya Chhawri expressed happiness over her victory and thanked the organisation, students, her team and her family for their support.
