Lucknow, 19 Sept (HS): Under the Government of India's

centrally funded scheme 'Ullhas - New India Literacy Programme', the first

basic literacy examination for the financial year 2026-27 will be conducted in

all the districts of the state on September 20, 2026. Approximately 5.10 lakh

illiterates aged 15 years and above will participate in the examination.

State Minister of State for Basic Education (Independent Charge) Sandeep Singh

stated that the main objective of the Ullas-Nav Bharat Literacy Program is to

educate illiterate individuals aged 15 and above by providing them with basic

literacy and numeracy. The program targets 75 percent participation for women

and 25 percent for men.

Basic Education Director Anil Bhushan Chaturvedi stated that the target for the

financial year 2026-27 is to educate a total of 10 lakh illiterates aged 15+ in

the state. As per the instructions of the Government of India, the Basic

Literacy Examination will be conducted in two phases this financial year, in

September and March respectively. The first phase of the examination will be

held on September 20.

According to data available on the Ullas portal, approximately 5.10 lakh

illiterate people aged 15+ in various districts of the state will participate

in this examination. The exam will assess the candidates' basic literacy and

numeracy skills. For the successful and smooth conduct of the examination,

necessary arrangements have been made at designated literacy examination

centers in all districts of the state. All divisional assistant education

directors (basic) and district basic education officers have been directed to

inspect and supervise the examination centers at the district level.
