
Guwahati, 19 September (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and BJP workers across the state paid tribute to singer and musician Zubeen Garg by donating blood on his death anniversary on Saturday.
After the blood donation in the state BJP headquarters Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan on Saturday CM Sarma said that around 3,800 BJP workers and others participated in blood donation programmes organised by BJP across Assam as a tribute to the late artiste.
The Chief Minister said Zubeen Garg’s contribution to the world of music and his positive role in humanitarian activities should always be remembered. Replying to an another question he noted that occasions such as Silpi Divas and Rabha Divas were initiated by the people and later received wider recognition.
Sarma said the government would carry forward the observance of Zubeen Garg’s memorial day after people had initiated it. He added that the BJP would organise blood donation programmes every year on both Zubeen Garg’s birth anniversary and death anniversary.
The Chief Minister made the remarks while speaking about the statewide blood donation initiative organised to honour the memory and legacy of the popular Assamese artiste.---------------
