Kolkata, 19 September (H.S.): Railway police arrested four people from a train at New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Railway Station on suspicion of illegal immigration. Preliminary investigation suggests that the four are originally from Myanmar and had been staying in Bangladesh for a long period.

According to railway police sources, intelligence inputs indicated that the four suspects had crossed the international border and were planning to travel by train towards Punjab. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) received the information and subsequently alerted the railway police.

Following the alert, the railway police and RPF conducted a joint operation at NJP station. On Friday night, when the Tripura Sundari Express arrived at Platform No. 6, security personnel launched a search operation in the general coaches.

During the search, the four suspects were detained. They were subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.

The authorities are now investigating the identities, travel route and circumstances under which the four individuals allegedly entered India.
