Bhubaneswar, 19 September (H.S.): Odisha has emerged as a “Frontrunner” among large states in the Indian Electric Mobility Index (IEMI) 2025, reflecting significant progress in electric mobility, transport electrification and charging infrastructure across the State.

The IEMI 2025 assessment was unveiled during the State EV Policies Review and Recalibration Meet convened by NITI Aayog in New Delhi .

Odisha recorded an overall IEMI score of 55. In two key parameters related to urban mobility, the State scored 58 in Transport Electrification Progress and 57 in Charging Infrastructure Readiness, placing it in the Frontrunner category in both areas.

The latest assessment marks a notable improvement over the IEMI 2024 rankings, when Odisha recorded a score of 49 and ranked seventh nationally. The improvement reflects the State’s continued efforts to promote electric vehicle adoption, expand clean public transport and strengthen charging infrastructure.

Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said the recognition reflected Odisha’s commitment to developing a cleaner, greener and future-ready transport system.

“Odisha’s recognition as a Frontrunner in the Indian Electric Mobility Index reflects our commitment to building a cleaner, greener and future-ready transport system. We are steadily expanding electric public transport, strengthening charging infrastructure and creating an enabling ecosystem for wider EV adoption,” he said.

He added that the State’s focus was to ensure that the transition to electric mobility contributed to cleaner air, improved urban mobility and a more sustainable Odisha.

The recognition is also aligned with the objectives of Odisha Vision 2047, which envisages a sustainable, climate-resilient and future-ready transportation ecosystem driven by clean energy and innovative mobility solutions.

The State Government has been pursuing measures aimed at reducing carbon emissions, improving urban air quality and developing an efficient, accessible and environmentally sustainable public transport network.

MD, Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), Md. Siddique Alam, said the recognition reinforced Odisha’s efforts to accelerate the electrification of public transport.

“With the continued expansion of electric bus services, charging infrastructure and digital mobility solutions, we are working towards making public transport cleaner, more efficient and accessible for citizens,” he said.

The State Government has said it will continue to invest in electric mobility, charging infrastructure and clean public transport, supported by enabling policies aimed at promoting green growth and sustainable urban development.
