Kolkata, 18 September (H.S.) : Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra has filed a formal police complaint after being shown black flags and pelted with raw eggs in the Tehatta area of Nadia district. The Krishnanagar MP lodged an email complaint at the Tehatta police station against eight individuals, including the president and vice-president of the Tehatta-1 Panchayat Samiti, who are allegedly associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Based on the complaint, local police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when Moitra visited a party office at the Haulia Park crossing in Tehatta to conduct a meeting with local TMC leaders and workers. According to the allegations, upon receiving news of her arrival, a group of BJP supporters gathered outside the venue. As the MP exited the party office after concluding her meeting, the demonstrators waved black flags, chanted go back slogans, and hurled raw eggs at her.

Taking to social media, Moitra alleged that instead of controlling the protesters, the police forcefully escorted her into her vehicle, where she continued to face the demonstration. In a sarcastic retort referencing a recent remark by Supreme Court Justice Dipankar Datta, she stated, Look, I am eating eggs like bullets. During a court hearing in August, Justice Datta had remarked that politicians should not fear eggs being thrown at them, noting that freedom fighters had taken bullets in their chests.

Despite the hostile reception, Moitra proceeded to attend another scheduled party program. She firmly dismissed claims that the protest was a spontaneous public outburst, alleging instead that it was a premeditated attack orchestrated by the BJP. Police sources confirmed that authorities are currently examining CCTV and video footage of the incident to identify the culprits.

Meanwhile, the local BJP leadership has categorically denied the allegations leveled by the TMC parliamentarian. Tehatta BJP MLA Subrata Kaviraj asserted that no party worker or supporter was involved in the undesirable incident. He claimed that the protest was an organic outburst of intense public anger stemming from Moitra's past controversial remarks regarding Hindu deities, which culminated in Wednesday's demonstration.
