
New Delhi, 18 September (H.S.): The domestic stock market was trading with gains amid volatility during early trading on Friday. The market had also opened on a positive note. However, selling pressure emerged soon after the opening, causing both the Sensex and Nifty to decline. Shortly thereafter, renewed buying support pushed both indices higher again. Amid continued buying and selling activity, the Sensex and Nifty were trading 0.19 percent higher as of 10:30 a.m.
The BSE Sensex opened at 74,575.24 points, registering a gain of 260.65 points, or 0.35 percent. Shortly after trading began, selling pressure pushed the index down to 74,375.07 points within the first 20 minutes. Thereafter, buyers stepped in, leading to a gradual recovery in the index. Amid continued buying and selling activity, the Sensex was trading at 74,458.69 points as of 10:30 a.m., up 144.10 points, or 0.19 percent.
Like the Sensex, the NSE Nifty also opened higher, rising 64.10 points, or 0.28 percent, to begin trading at 23,334.70 points. Selling pressure emerged immediately after the market opened, pulling the index down to 23,286.60 points within a short period. Buyers subsequently stepped in and provided support to the market, leading to a recovery in the index. Amid continued buying and selling activity, the Nifty was trading at 23,314.05 points as of 10:30 a.m., up 43.45 points, or 0.19 percent.
A total of 2,948 stocks were actively traded in the stock market so far. Of these, 2,156 stocks were trading in positive territory, while 792 were trading in the red after registering losses. Among the 30 Sensex constituents, 16 stocks were trading in the green with buying support, while 14 were trading in the red amid selling pressure. Similarly, of the 50 stocks comprising the Nifty, 29 were trading higher and 21 were trading lower.
As of 10:30 a.m., shares of major companies including Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Eternal, UltraTech Cement, JSW Steel and InterGlobe Aviation were trading with gains ranging from 2.38 percent to 1.54 percent. On the other hand, shares of TMPV, TCS, Tech Mahindra, Infosys and HCL Technologies were trading lower, with declines ranging from 2.80 percent to 0.99 percent.
In the previous trading session on Thursday, the Sensex had closed marginally lower by 21.86 points, or 0.03 percent, at 74,314.59 points. In contrast, the Nifty ended Thursday’s trading session with a gain of 53 points, or 0.23 percent, at 23,270.60 points.
