Patna, 18 September (H.S.): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin has expressed concern over the flood situation in Bihar and provided details of the relief and rescue operations being undertaken by the state government. He said flood-affected families were being assisted through financial aid, relief camps, community kitchens and medical facilities. As a Rajya Sabha member, Nitin Nabin has contributed Rs 6.35 lakh, equivalent to his salary for three months, to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

In a press statement issued on Friday, Nitin Nabin said the flood situation was being continuously monitored and that the government was working to ensure timely relief and essential assistance reached affected people. According to him, the state government has so far provided more than Rs 550 crore in financial assistance to flood-affected families at the rate of Rs 7,000 per family.

The BJP president said relief camps, community kitchens, medical facilities and fodder arrangements for livestock had been put in place in the affected areas. Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed for rescue operations. Assessment of crop damage suffered by farmers is also underway, following which the process of providing necessary assistance will be carried out.

The BJP national president said the Central Government was also closely monitoring the flood situation in Bihar. Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited flood-affected areas on September 16 to review the relief and rescue operations. He met affected families and assured them of all possible assistance from the Centre.

Nitin Nabin said that the government stood with the affected people during the crisis and that relief operations were being carried out with full preparedness and urgency.
