Thiruvananthapuram, 18 September (H.S.):The CPM State Secretariat will meet in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday for the first time after the party's expanded State Committee meeting, with organisational changes and a review of its Assembly election defeat expected to dominate the discussions.

Newly inducted Secretariat members P. Jayarajan, M.B. Rajesh and V. Sivankutty will attend today's meeting along with special invitee John Brittas. The meeting is expected to examine the proposals and corrective measures presented at the expanded State Committee meeting held in Kozhikode following the party's severe electoral setback.

The immediate task before the Secretariat will be to finalise the schedule for expanded district committee meetings across Kerala. In accordance with the State Committee's decision, the Kannur district committee will be the first to convene. Meetings in other districts are likely to follow in phases.

The district-level discussions will assess the political and organisational factors that contributed to the party's poor performance in the Assembly election. Feedback from local committees and grassroots workers is also expected to be considered while preparing measures to rebuild the organisation and regain public confidence.

The election defeat has triggered criticism over the functioning of the party leadership and its organisational machinery in several districts. Against this background, the CPM is likely to consider changes involving some district secretaries and members of the State Secretariat.

Although major decisions may not be announced immediately, today's meeting is expected to initiate consultations on the proposed reshuffle. Crucial decisions regarding leadership changes could be taken in the coming days after the completion of district-level reviews.

The Secretariat will also discuss how to implement the recommendations placed before the expanded State Committee in Kozhikode. The leadership is expected to prepare a roadmap aimed at addressing organisational weaknesses, strengthening coordination among party units and improving the CPM's political outreach across Kerala.
