Nagaon (Assam), 18 September (HS): The scrutiny of nomination papers for the Nagaon HPC bye-election was completed on Friday, with nomination papers of 18 out of the 25 candidates found valid.

Among the candidates whose nominations were declared valid are Devasish Sharma of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Md. Badruddin Ajmal of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), and Sibamoni Bora of the Indian National Congress (INC).

The scrutiny process was conducted ahead of the next stage of the electoral process. Candidates can withdraw their candidature until September 19, 2026, according to the election authorities.

The Nagaon HPC bye-election has been necessitated by the vacancy of the Lok Sabha seat. The final list of candidates will be known after the completion of the withdrawal process on September 19.-------------
