Chennai, 17 September (H.S.): Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay arrived in Chennai on Thursday after concluding a visit to the United Kingdom that focused on attracting fresh investments and exploring international partnerships for Tamil Nadu.

The visit resulted in proposed investments totalling ₹15,300 crore, the State government said. Once implemented, the projects are projected to create nearly 10,000 direct and indirect jobs in different parts of Tamil Nadu.

During his engagements in the UK, Vijay interacted with representatives of several companies and highlighted Tamil Nadu’s industrial ecosystem, infrastructure facilities, skilled workforce and policies designed to support investors.

He also held talks with Indian High Commissioner Kumaran Periyasamy on strengthening economic cooperation between India and the UK. The discussions covered the scope for new joint ventures and business collaborations under the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement.

Apart from his investment-related engagements, Vijay visited the Silverstone Motor Racing Circuit. The visit was connected to the State government’s proposal to establish a world-class Sports City in Tamil Nadu, an initiative previously announced by the Chief Minister in the Assembly.

At Silverstone, Vijay held discussions with officials and experts on modern motor-racing technology, circuit infrastructure and safety and security arrangements. The government is expected to examine international models while preparing its plans for the proposed Sports City and related motorsport facilities.

Unlike the customary reception accorded to Chief Ministers returning from official foreign visits, no Ministers were asked to welcome Vijay at the Chennai airport.

The State government said the change was made on Vijay’s instructions as he did not want Ministers to leave their official duties to receive him. His arrival was consequently kept simple, without the usual ministerial presence and ceremonial protocol.
