Bhubaneswar, 17 September (H.S.): The Department of Water Resources organised a plantation drive at the WALMI campus in Pratapnagari on Thursday as part of the Seva Sankalpa Abhiyan, reaffirming its commitment to water conservation and environmental protection.

As many as 76 native and climate-resilient saplings were planted during the programme. The initiative aimed to translate the spirit of the Seva Sankalpa Abhiyan into meaningful public service by promoting environmental responsibility and conservation of natural resources.

The Department said the plantation drive would contribute to creating a greener, healthier and more sustainable environment for future generations, while strengthening efforts towards biodiversity conservation and ecological balance.

The saplings planted included native species such as Peepal, Karanj, Bakul and Guava, which are well suited to the coastal climatic conditions of Odisha. The species are expected to support ecological balance, biodiversity protection and water conservation in the years ahead.

Special Secretary, Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell, Prafulla Kumar Swain; Director, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, Department of Water Resources, Ashok Kumar Behera; Additional Secretary Subrat Kumar Nayak; Director, WALMI, Goutam Kumar Sethi, along with senior officials of the Department and officers and staff of WALMI, participated in the plantation programme.
