Sacrifice of liberation heroes remains etched in history: Governor Shukla

Hyderabad, 17 September (H.S.): Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Thursday paid homage to the martyrs and freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives during the Hyderabad Liberation struggle, saying their courage, sacrifice and spirit of struggle would continue to inspire generations.

The Governor participated, along with Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, in the Telangana Liberation Day celebrations held at the Parade Grounds in Secunderabad.

Shukla said September 17, 1948, marked the liberation of the people of the erstwhile Hyderabad State and its integration with the Indian Union. He said the Hyderabad Liberation struggle constituted an important chapter in the history of India's freedom movement and recalled the sacrifices made by farmers, youth and women.

The Governor also paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for his decisive role in the integration of Hyderabad State with the Indian Union.

He said Hyderabad Liberation Day was not merely an occasion to recall a historic event but also an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment to unity, integrity and democratic values.

Shukla called upon people to draw inspiration from the sacrifices of the liberation heroes and contribute towards building a strong, prosperous and developed Telangana.

Earlier, the Governor received Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan at Begumpet Airport on his arrival in Hyderabad to attend the Telangana Liberation Day celebrations organised by the Government of India at the Parade Grounds in Secunderabad.
