Hooghly, 17 September (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday was celebrated with enthusiasm in Champdani and Sheoraphuli areas of Hooghly district on Tuesday. A large number of people participated in various programmes organised to mark the occasion.

Under the leadership of BJP MLA Dilip Singh, thousands of earthen lamps were lit at Nimai Tirth Ghat in Sheoraphuli, with prayers for the Prime Minister’s good health and long life. Singh also travelled among the people on a launch on the Ganga and distributed laddoos and sweets.

A separate programme was organised in Ward No. 1 of Champdani under the leadership of Manik Shaw and Vicky Singh. The celebrations included cake-cutting, after which the cake was offered to a statue of Prime Minister Modi.

Local women also participated enthusiastically in the programme. They applied tilak to the Prime Minister’s statue, performed an aarti and sang “Happy Birthday to Modi Bhaiya” while extending their good wishes.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is organising various service-oriented programmes across the country to mark the Prime Minister’s birthday. As part of these celebrations, several programmes were held throughout the day at different locations in the Champdani Assembly constituency, where sweets were distributed among local residents.
