Gives three months

to resolve all issues

Patoda (Beed),

17 Sept (HS): Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange called off his indefinite hunger strike on the 20th

day on Thursday, after talks with Maharashtra Government’s delegation. He gave

three months to the Government to address issues relating to Maratha community,

including issuance of Kunbi caste certificates to them.

Jarange said he

has ended the fast, but not the struggle for the community. He will take the

agitation if the government failed to resolve the issues of Maratha Community

within three months.

Jarange (44) has

been on a hunger strike since August 29 at Antarwali Sarati, and was on way to

Mumbai.

After discussion

with the Government delegation comprising ministers Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil

and Dada Bhuse, MLC Prasad Lad, MLC Suresh Dhas and senior officers he decided

to end the fast. During the meeting, the delegation apprised Jarange of the

steps taken by the government. Vikhe Patil suggested that three members may be

appointed by Jarange to monitor the progress on the issues.

Jarange’s health

deteriorated during his march from Antarwali Sarati to Mumbai. He halted at

Patoda on his way to Mumbai.

Jarange also

appealed to the Maratha members who had already reached Mumbai to return after

visiting Ganesh Utsav pandals. Over one lakh people have already reached

Mumbai, Jarange claimed.

Chief Minister

Devendra Fadnavis had said that 12 out of 13 demands of Manoj Jarange have been

accepted. The remaining demand need legal advice, to prevent any legal hassles

in the future.
