Mumbai, 17 Sept (HS): An offence has been registered

against six inmates of Kalamba Jail in Kolahpur for murderous attack in a

prison officer. Juna rajwada Police on Thursday booked the six prisoners

involved in the attack. Jail officer Prakash Funnu Chavan (50) has been shifted

to a hospital. Kalamba jail authorities have proposed to shift the attacker prisoners

to other jail.

According Kalamba jail authorities, some prisoners

started arguments in Barack number 3 and 4 of Circle number 1 on September 13.

Chavan reached the spot and directed them to maintain peace and discipline.

Irate by Chavan’s behaviour, the six prisoners

entered his office on Wednesday, abused him and beat her. They attempted to hit

Chavan on head by a stone. In an attempt to save from the attack Chavan raised

his left hand. The boulder hit his hand injuring him seriously. The attackers

have been identified as Altaf Sharif, Bharat Raju Shetti, Vinayak Sambhaji

Chougule, Ashutosh Santiosh Vartale, Adam Mohammad Mujawar and Shahid Mansur.

A proposal to shift the attackers to different

prisons was immediately made. On getting the permission from the administration,

they are expected to be shifted to prisons in Amravati, Nagpur or Yerwada.
