New Delhi, 17 September (H.S.):

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal said on Thursday that several episodes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s life clearly demonstrate that discipline, respect for rules and a strong sense of putting the nation first have always been deeply ingrained in his personality.

Meghwal made the remarks at the launch of the book ‘Modi Katha’, organised on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) in New Delhi. The book has been authored by Dr Harish Chandra Barnwal and published by Prabhat Prakashan.

Referring to parliamentary propriety, Meghwal recalled an incident from 2018. He said that during the election process in the Rajya Sabha, the Prime Minister was scheduled to enter the House. When a delay occurred due to a dispute over the procedure, officials and Opposition leaders suggested that, as Prime Minister, he could enter and take his seat.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi made it clear that I am a member of the Lok Sabha, not the Rajya Sabha. If the rules state that a non-member can sit inside the House during the election process, only then will I enter. I will not violate the rules,” Meghwal quoted him as saying.

According to Meghwal, the Prime Minister remained seated in the lobby outside the House for around 25 to 30 minutes and entered only after the procedure had been completed.

Meghwal also recalled another incident, saying that Prime Minister Modi had remained awake throughout the night following the Balakot airstrike and ahead of a rally in Churu. Modi, he said, had told him that it was necessary to convey a message to the country.

Thereafter, addressing a gathering of lakhs of people at the Churu rally, the Prime Minister had said:

“I swear by this soil, I will not let the country perish. I will not let the country bow down. I will not let the country stop.”

The author said that the book does not focus solely on the political dimensions of Prime Minister Modi’s life, but also explores his seriousness, warmth and human sensitivities.

The programme was presided over by Ram Bahadur Rai, Chairman of the IGNCA and Group Editor of Hindusthan Samachar.

Senior journalist Saeed Ansari and senior journalist Chitra Tripathi attended the event as distinguished guests. Dr Sachchidanand Joshi, Member Secretary of the IGNCA, was also present, along with other guests.
