New Delhi, 17 September (H.S.): Amid the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Wednesday levelled serious allegations against National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) workers, accusing them of carrying out a planned attack at the residence of one of its activists.

The ABVP claimed that its workers caught one of the alleged attackers while he was fleeing the spot and handed him over to the local police. According to the organisation, the individual allegedly admitted to being an NSUI social media worker.

According to the ABVP, the incident took place at the residence of its workers in the Hari Mandir area of the university zone. The organisation said that student activists, including female students, were present at the residence and were holding a peaceful meeting. The ABVP alleged that NSUI workers who had arrived from outside suddenly attacked the gathering without any provocation. Several alleged attackers fled the spot immediately after the incident, while ABVP workers detained one person at the scene and handed him over to the police without taking the law into their own hands.

Strongly objecting to the incident, ABVP Delhi state minister Sarthak Sharma said, “An attempt is being made to suppress democratic student politics through violence.” He questioned why NSUI workers had reached the residence of ABVP activists and why the attack was carried out despite the presence of female student activists.

Sharma alleged that when there is a lack of dialogue and public support among students, the political machinery of the Congress, Indian Youth Congress (IYC) and NSUI resorts to violence in student politics. He also called upon the Congress leadership to fix accountability for the activities of its student and youth wings. He made it clear that the ABVP would not bow to any form of violent pressure.

Sharma urged the Delhi Police to conduct an impartial investigation into the entire incident, identify all other individuals allegedly involved in the attack and take strict legal action against them. He also called for adequate measures to ensure the safety of students on the Delhi University campus.
