New Delhi, 17 September (H.S.): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today inaugurated the ‘Namo Shramik Seva Kendra’ and a rest facility for gig workers in Shalimar Bagh as part of the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, launched on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. Delhi Labour Minister Kapil Mishra, along with a large number of workers, was present at the programme. On the occasion, the Chief Minister also interacted with workers and listened to their experiences and suggestions.

Addressing the programme, the Chief Minister said the government remains continuously committed to the dignity, welfare and convenience of workers who have made a significant contribution to Delhi’s development and construction through their labour, hard work and dedication. She said the objective of the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ is to make public services more convenient, accessible and closer to citizens. It is in keeping with this commitment that the ‘Namo Shramik Seva Kendra’ has been launched, so that workers do not have to make repeated visits to different government offices to access government schemes and services.

The Chief Minister said the ‘Namo Shramik Seva Kendra’ will function as a facilitation centre for workers, providing essential assistance related to various government services and labour welfare schemes under one roof. Workers will receive assistance with registration and renewal, document verification, information on the status of applications, details of various welfare schemes and guidance on services related to claims. This will make access to government services easier and more convenient for workers.

She said that a person who has contributed to building and advancing Delhi through his or her labour should not have to face unnecessary difficulties while accessing government facilities. Ensuring that the benefits of government schemes and services reach the last person through a simple process is the true spirit of public service, she said.

During the programme, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the rest facility for gig workers. She said that a large number of gig workers are providing services amid a rapidly changing work environment. In such circumstances, it is equally important to provide them with convenient and dignified spaces to rest across the city. The initiative is a step towards providing gig workers with better facilities to take a break and rest during their working hours. Through this, the government seeks to make public facilities in Delhi more sensitive and citizen-centric for workers and gig workers.

The Chief Minister said that, under the guidance of the Prime Minister, special emphasis has been placed on translating welfare initiatives for the poor into tangible benefits on the ground. The government is working at various levels while keeping in mind workers’ needs related to income, housing, food, healthcare, skill development and social security.

She said the ‘Namo Shramik Seva Kendra’ is not merely a facilitation centre but also a symbol of the government’s commitment to respecting and serving workers. The objective is to ensure that workers are aware of their rights and welfare schemes and do not face any unnecessary difficulties in accessing the benefits available to them.

Extending her greetings to all workers on the occasion of Bhagwan Vishwakarma Jayanti, the Chief Minister said that respecting workers, promoting their welfare and providing them with necessary facilities remain priorities for the Delhi government. She said the government is developing a system to take healthcare services directly to workplaces so that workers do not have to depend solely on hospital visits for regular health check-ups.

Under the initiative, healthcare vehicles will visit workplaces to conduct regular health examinations of workers and, if any illness or health-related problem is detected, arrangements will be made for necessary treatment. She said the tradition associated with Bhagwan Vishwakarma conveys the importance of labour, creation and construction. The ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ is carrying forward the same spirit by taking public service closer to those in need.

On the occasion, Delhi Labour Minister Kapil Mishra said the country’s workers and artisans will play an important role in fulfilling the resolve of building a developed India by 2047. As part of this effort, 13 Shramik Seva Kendras will be launched across Delhi in the first phase. Workers will be able to register free of cost at these centres and access various labour welfare schemes of the government. The network of these centres will subsequently be expanded across Delhi.

The Labour Minister said the Delhi government is also planning to establish training centres where workers will receive not only technical skills but also foreign-language training, opening up new employment opportunities for them around the world. He said the Delhi government’s resolve is to ensure that a developed and prosperous India is built through the hands, hard work, skills and talent of its workers.
