New Delhi, 17 September (H.S.): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday launched the Organ Donation Pledge Campaign under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, being organised from September 17 to October 17 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.

The initiative aims to promote organ donation, strengthen transplantation services and encourage citizens to pledge their organs for donation. The Chief Minister herself pledged to donate her organs and formally filled out the organ donation pledge form.

The Delhi Government’s Department of Health and Family Welfare organised a programme at the Delhi Secretariat on the occasion, during which an online portal was launched. Through the portal, residents of Delhi can join the Organ Donation Pledge Campaign online and register their pledge to donate organs. The Delhi Government has made the portal available for this purpose. After registration, a digital pledge certificate is automatically generated, which citizens can download.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that organ donation reflects the true spirit of service and public commitment. She said that the generous and noble decision of one person can help save several lives. She appealed to the people of Delhi to actively participate in the campaign and take a pledge to donate their organs.

She said the organ donation campaign has the potential not only to provide a renewed hope of life to patients awaiting transplants, but also to give fresh impetus to the cause of organ donation in society. With active citizen participation, organ donation can be transformed into a people-driven movement, she added.

To improve coordination in organ and tissue donation and transplantation and promote organ and tissue donation, the Delhi Government has also made the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO) operational at G.B. Pant Hospital. Through this initiative, coordination and promotion of activities related to organ and tissue donation in Delhi will be strengthened.

Under the organ donation pledge campaign, various channels will be used to reach citizens in keeping with the spirit of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. These include digital platforms, awareness campaigns, educational institutions, healthcare facilities and community-level activities.

The objective of the initiative is to ensure that organ donation does not remain limited merely to awareness efforts but develops into a movement driven by public participation. The campaign seeks to encourage a larger number of citizens to come forward and contribute to this life-saving cause.

Delhi Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh said that a dedicated Organ Donation Pledge Portal had been launched in Delhi as part of the service fortnight, with the objective of making the organ donation process more accessible and ensuring greater public participation.

He said Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had set an inspiring example by taking the organ donation pledge herself and becoming the first person to register on the SOTTO website. With SOTTO now operational at G.B. Pant Hospital, coordination and promotion of organ and tissue donation in Delhi are being further strengthened.

The Health Minister appealed to all citizens to come forward, take the organ donation pledge and become part of this noble initiative.
