Guwahati, 17 September (H.S.): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday extended birthday greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing his relationship with Assam as “deep and heartfelt” and acknowledging his contribution to giving the state a new identity on the global stage.

In a social media post, Sarma said Assam gratefully recognised the Prime Minister’s efforts to highlight the state, including through the traditional Assamese gamosa that he wears during his visits and engagements across India and abroad. He also noted that Modi has created a record by visiting Assam more times than any other Prime Minister in the state’s history.

Sarma said the importance accorded by Modi to Assam and the Northeast since 2014 had brought new hope, possibilities and development to the region. He said every visit of the Prime Minister to Assam had carried a message of new opportunities, while ambitious projects approved for the state reflected his government’s commitment to Assam.

In another post, Sarma described Modi as a leader who had remained committed to public service for 25 years, from Gujarat to the national level, with a focus on Antyodaya and building a stronger India.

The Chief Minister highlighted improved connectivity, industrial development, the global recognition of Lachit Barphukan’s legacy and the inclusion of the Charaideo Maidams on the UNESCO World Heritage List as examples of the state’s development and heritage being showcased internationally.

Sarma said Modi’s support and guidance during Assam’s challenges had strengthened the state’s resolve to serve the people. He also prayed for the Prime Minister’s good health, strength and long life on his birthday.-----------
