Prayagraj, 17 Sept (HS): According to information from

Professor Naseha Usmani, Principal, Hamidia Girls Degree College, Prayagraj,

the closing ceremony of the ten-day Arabic-Urdu Calligraphy Workshop organized

by the Arabic and Urdu Departments was held on September 7, 2021, Thursday at

1:30 am. The program began with the recitation of the Holy Quran and the

presentation of bouquets and mementos to the guests. College Principal

Professor Naseha Usmani extended a warm welcome to the guests with various

couplets.

Chief Guest Brigadier Syed Ahmed Ali, former Pro-Vice

Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, cited his close ties with

Hamidia Girls Degree College and congratulated the college on organizing this

workshop. In his address, he explained that calligraphy is a beautiful art

form, highly valued even in foreign countries like the United States and

Istanbul. Examples of calligraphy are found in all countries of the world. This

art can easily influence anyone. Islam itself encourages this art. He stated

that Arabic calligraphy is the most beautiful of all languages and explained

the meaning of the word 'Calligraphy' in detail.

Citing historical context, he highlighted the importance of

education, encouraging the students, calling them the future of the institution

and the country. He also urged them to utilize their abilities and make this

art a source of employment.

Honored guest, international award-winning calligrapher Qari

Mahmood Alam Baliyavi, compared the art of calligraphy to picking up scattered

pearls and stringing them together on a thread. He highlighted the importance

of letters and pen in the context of various Islamic traditions. He said that

calligraphy is the art of beautifully expressing the emotions of the heart,

which involves an artist's interest, dedication, and passion. He elaborated on

the foundations and evolution of calligraphy, providing detailed information

about the historical context of various types of scripts.

Recognizing the importance of calligraphy in this machine

age, he congratulated the college for attracting students to this art. Through

a few lines of his composition, he offered beautiful, captivating words of

congratulations to the chief guest, principal, teachers, and students, creating

a beautiful atmosphere.

A beautiful exhibition of calligraphy samples was also

organized on this occasion, which was inaugurated by the chief guest, Brigadier

Syed Ahmed Ali, former Pro-Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh.

Dr. Siddiqa Jabir, Assistant Professor, Department of Arabic, also presented a

report on the ten-day Arabic and Urdu calligraphy workshop.

Rukaiya, a first-year BA student from Hamidia Girls' Degree

College, was awarded a certificate and cash prize for her outstanding

calligraphy at the exhibition. Certificates were also presented to all students

who participated in the workshop.

The programme was conducted by Dr. Siddiqa Jabir, Assistant

Professor, Department of Arabic and the vote of thanks was given by Dr. Nudrat

Mahmood, Workshop Coordinator and Associate Professor, Department of Arabic,

Hamidia Girls Degree College, Prayagraj.
