New Delhi, 16 September (H.S.): On the occasion of World Ozone Day on Wednesday, Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Kirti Vardhan Singh launched the Net-Zero Portal and the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) Dashboard. The two digital platforms are aimed at promoting voluntary net-zero efforts and strengthening the monitoring of progress under the country's ongoing climate missions.

The Net-Zero Portal will provide a common platform for Indian organisations operating across various sectors to register their voluntary net-zero targets and publicly disclose their progress. Organisations will be able to provide information on their greenhouse gas emissions, net-zero targets and annual progress. The portal encourages organisations to report Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, while reporting of Scope 3 emissions has been kept voluntary.

Organisations will also be able to share their strategies for achieving net zero. These may include activities such as adopting clean energy, improving energy efficiency, implementing technological measures and undertaking carbon removal initiatives. Eligible organisations declaring net-zero targets will receive confirmation and approval from the Ministry of Environment.

The NAPCC Dashboard, meanwhile, will display the progress of various national missions being implemented under the National Action Plan on Climate Change on a single digital platform. This will help the concerned ministries and departments monitor programmes, assess progress across different sectors and identify gaps in implementation.

According to the Ministry, both platforms will strengthen transparency, improved coordination and data-driven decision-making in climate action. They will also help establish better alignment between India's domestic climate efforts and its international climate commitments.
